The Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ) today announced that Atlantic City saw continued growth in the month of June, according to the most recent Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) gaming revenue results report. The DGE report released on Friday indicates that June gaming revenue for Atlantic City was over $278 million. This reflects a 20.2 percent increase over the same period last year.
“Summer is in full swing and Atlantic City is busy with visitors,” said Kevin Ortzman, President of the Casino Association of New Jersey. “June was a great month for Atlantic City as we enjoyed great weather, marked the one-year anniversary of the legalization of sports betting, along with the one-year anniversaries of the opening of two new casinos. We look forward to continued growth throughout the summer as we welcome visitors to our dynamic resort destination.”
June marked 13 straight months of revenue gains for Atlantic City. This builds upon the momentum the legalization of sports betting created over the last year. In May, New Jersey sportsbooks beat Nevada for the first time ever, with New Jersey sportsbooks taking in $1.5 million more in wagers. Industry experts believe Atlantic City’s growth will continue to translate into increases in jobs and tourism throughout the summer months.
Other highlights from the DGE report include:
- Total gaming revenue in Atlantic City for 2019 is over $1.5 billion
- Online gaming revenue was over $38 million in June 2019, up 67.8 percent over June 2018
- Sports wagering revenue for Atlantic City casinos was $4.07 million in June 2019
- The industry generated over $23 million in taxes and fees collected by the state in June 2019
The casino industry continues to work to solidify the seaside resort’s comeback by diversifying Atlantic City’s offerings, as well as investing hundreds of millions of dollars in redevelopment projects and non-gaming services to attract new visitors. The industry’s efforts have advanced the revitalization of Atlantic City, transforming the city into a business conference destination and first-class resort that features great restaurants, entertainment and shopping.
