NBA and Sixers legend Julius “Dr. J” Erving will place the first sports wager at the Borgata casino in Atlantic City on Thursday morning as legal sports betting launches in New Jersey.
The Borgata is the only Atlantic City casino to offer sports betting starting Thursday, though many other venues intend to follow suit in the following weeks and months as they build out sports books. Ocean Resort Casino, which plans to opens on June 28, is making its sports book the central focus of its casino floor. Hard Rock Casino, which is opening the same day, also plans to offer sports betting.
Erving will be joined at the kickoff event at the Borgata by Senate President Stephen Sweeney, D-Gloucester.
