Harrahs’s Resort will host the Atlantic City High School graduation this year, at no cost to the district.
Rick Mazer, regional president and general manager for Harrah’s Resort, said they had been contacted about graduation, and agreed to provide the Waterfront Conference Center at no cost to help the financially struggling district.
“We know that the school district and the city are in difficult financial times, but that’s not the students’ fault,” Mazer said by phone Tuesday. “These are the children of our employees and neighbors. They deserve a first-class graduation.”
Interim school superintendent Paul Spaventa told the school board last week that Harrah’s had offered to host the event, scheduled for June 17.
Arrangements are also being made to provide parking and possibly a reduced-fee buffet.
“We’re still working out the details, but we can open up the back lot at the convention center which holds 500 or 600 cars,” Mazer said.
