Atlantic City Casinos Continue to See Gains in October

The Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ) today announced that Atlantic City casinos continued to see growth in the month of October, according to the most recent Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) gaming revenue results report. October marked 17 straight months that Atlantic City casinos experienced gaming revenue increases, thanks in part to sports betting and the World Series, football, basketball and hockey seasons.

“October gaming revenue showed sustained growth for Atlantic City’s casinos,” said Steve Callender, President of the Casino Association of New Jersey. “New Jersey sportsbooks have surpassed Nevada’s in recent months, and it continues to show significant promise for the gaming industry. We are optimistic as we approach the end of this year that we will finish 2019 out in a strong position.”

The DGE report released on Thursday indicates that October gaming revenue for Atlantic City was over $266 million. This reflects a 13.6 percent increase over the same period last year. Other highlights from the DGE report include:

  • Online gaming revenue was over $45 million, up 69 percent from October 2018
  • Sports wagering revenue was over $18 million, up 170.7 percent from October 2018
  • The industry generated over $23 million in taxes and fees collected by the state in October
  • Total gaming revenue in Atlantic City for 2019 through October is over $2.7 billion

“Atlantic City’s casinos have seen consistent growth almost across the board,” said Debra DiLorenzo, President & CEO, Chamber of Commerce of Southern Jersey. “October’s gaming revenue increases prove that Atlantic City is thriving, and we look forward to seeing this positive momentum drive jobs, tourism and the economy.”

The casino industry continues to work to solidify the seaside resort’s comeback by diversifying Atlantic City’s offerings, as well as investing hundreds of millions of dollars in redevelopment projects and non-gaming services to attract new visitors. The industry’s efforts have advanced the revitalization of Atlantic City, transforming the city into a business conference destination and first-class resort that features great restaurants, entertainment and shopping.
